I was born in Houston, and came to faith in Jesus Christ when I was eight years old. My wife, Shawn, and I married in 1986 and we have three grown daughters — each of whom are nurses in the Big Country — and five grandchildren (one more on the way). We moved to west-central Texas almost 18 years ago to pastor in a rural setting for 13 years, before the Lord called us to Abilene in 2014.
I began a career in journalism, working as a sports editor and news editor before surrendering to preach. I attended seminary at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div.) and Luther Rice Seminary (D.Min). Additionally, I serve as a chaplain with Hospice of the Big Country.
Shawn and I lead short-term mission trips to Romania, where we minister to Roma (Gyspy) communities and encourage Romanian Christians through a preaching/teaching ministry and children’s ministry.
My hobbies include: fishing and hanging out with my kids and grandkids.
Minister of Music/ Children’s Pastor
I began serving in the Elmcrest music ministry shortly after joining the church and two years ago the congregation called me as the Minister of Music. My goal is to bring a blended approach to worship through song with familiar hymns and contemporary music. In addition to the music ministry, It also serves as the Children’s minister, leading children’s church on Sundays and TeamKid on Wednesdays.
I have been married to Lealonnie for five years and we have a son, Mager, and a daughter, Josie.
Missions Pastor/ Outreach Minister
I joined the staff in July 2015 to assist the overall church vision for local missions and outreach. I was born in Rotan, TX and married Rachel in 1984. I came to Christ as a result of my mother’s continual prayers and under the preaching and teaching of my father-in-law. Almost immediately God called me to missions.
I have served as pastor and associate pastor in three Texas churches and as a short-term missionary to Mexico over the past 30 years. God has gifted Rachel with a ministry in music and together we serve the Lord in every opportunity He gives us.
Rachel and I have three grown children and four grandchildren.
My hobbies include: fishing, sports & outdoors, and exercising.
I grew up in the panhandle of Texas graduating from Pampa High School and then Draughon’s Business School in Amarillo. Our family moved to Del Rio, Texas in 1975 where I worked as administrative assistant to the pastor before moving to Abilene. I joined the staff at Elmcrest Baptist Church in 1991.
I have two sons, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
My hobbies include: reading and working in the yard.
